Breeding

 

Jockey Club rules require that a breeding be live cover for any foal that will be registered with the Jockey Club.  Artificial insemination (AI) is prohibited. There are several reasons for this rule, and the experiences of other breeds where we see weakened gene pools, the use of frozen semen from deceased stallions, the use of surrogate mares, and even litigation to allow cloned horses eligibility for competition.

 

If you decide to breed your mare to one of our stallions, you will need to transport her to our main farm in Enumclaw, Washington.  Most mare owners choose to bring their mare at least a few days in advance to board with us so that she will be fully settled before her scheduled breeding date.  Having her stay with us at least a few days after the breeding will help ensure the success of the breeding.

 

El Dorado Farms performs its breeding operations in a large indoor facility, where staff members carefully manage the behavior of your mare and the stallion to reduce the potential for injuries and to ensure a successful breeding. Once the breeding is complete, we perform semen viability testing on-site.

 

Once you've decided to breed to one of our stallions, you can either contact us by phone or email, or you can go to our online booking page to start the scheduling process.

 

There is no charge for booking you mare to one of our stallions, and the stud fee becomes due upon live birth of your foal.  If you decide to have your mare board with us, our normal boarding fees will apply.
